Graphing Calculators on Math

My  coach just told us today that we're now going to be allowed to use graphing calculators on the math test.  He said it was the people from Arizona's idea and that at the national meeting, they adopted it.  Anyone else hear about this?  Is anyone as relieved as I am about the fact?  I'm great at math, but terrible at simple math.  It takes me an embarrassingly long time to figure out things like 112 plus 114.

Wow. I kinda dont like that.

I always see people busting out their calculators for simple things and I just think "Wasting their time..."

Kind of like how Open Book actually slows you down.

You need a graphing calculator to figure out what 112 plus 114 is?

What horseshit.

Why, in my day, we were actually expected to know things.

Well, I'm sorry the young-uns of today aren't up to your standards.

Ooooh! So you went to North. I see. Well, I'm not making this personal, despite what you want to do. So I respectfully decline continuing this arguement. Good day.

I haven't heard that. I really hope we can though, because last year (oh goodness I'm so embarrassed) I got an 80. It's horrible, I know, and I think I would have gotten a much better score with a calculator. I hope you heard right.

The fact that I found another Acadec-er here surprises me. But it's nice. Hope you do well. We have the best leader ever on our team (not a coach but a student) who is absolutely wonderful and brilliant at everything he does. He's sure to win all sorts of medals this year at our comp. We're in central CA, by the way.

I wish you luck, and again, I hope you heard right about the calculators.

Good luck to you too!

I know what you mean about the math thing. I do pretty good, which really isn't very good at all. My freshman year, at the district competition, the highest math score was around 500. I think everyone will be happy about the calculators.
